A bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth out there in PR blogger land.
First, a deserved admonishment from Steve Rubel, calling for a return to “deep blogging,” whatever that is. I mean, how deep can you really go on a blog without getting completely boring?
Others chimed in, with Mark Rose noting the direct relationship between real-world work load and bloggers copping to link posts as a way to keep the daily post going — without any real content.
OK, I’m guilty … of no time to think, much less produce blog copy, given that it’s January and agency clients are popping out of the woodwork with lots of demands as they ramp up for the coming year. Hey, where’s the economic downturn?!? Nobody I know seems to be acting like it’s not business-as-usual.
I guess I’m not the only one beset by January uptake of public relations services — Brian over at 2.0 gave us a post on Jan. 17 about The Value of Online Conversations … and then we didn’t hear from him for a week! Followed by a blogging hiatus of an additional week! Very unusual, so I know he’s super busy …
The temptation for a quickie “Is blogging dying?” post is ever present. But, for my money, it’s just January … and real-world business cycles have kicked in. And, public relations IS a business activity, after all.
That said, February is almost upon us. Maybe with client demands somewhat satisfied, for a moment or two, we’ll all get down to a bit of useful blogging before long. Before the Spring tech conferences kick in and … oh, will it ever end?

Good to see you!
I hit one today at PR 2.0. Would love to write more, but as you say, work comes first and it’s definitely a busy time of the year. I’ve also been writing daily over at http://bub.blicio.us so it takes the already limited time and stretches it thinner

Since returning from the holiday break, it’s been a bit of a challenge to get back into a regular blogging routine. Being busy with client work certainly doesn’t help the situation. My guess is that blogging frequency will pick up over the next few weeks and return to normal very soon.

Hey, I had a nice rhythm going until I ran into Crisis Comms Hell Week.
It happens.
